Hetalia Headcanon and facts
I’ve been RPing Hungary for a little over a year now on Livejournal and from doing research, I’ve uncovered a lot of stuff I never knew. Like, relations with other Nations and History like the rivalry with Romania and how Transylvania and Wallachia was pretty much Hungarian territory that had been disputed with Romania until the end of WWII. So when I see Romania portrayed as a Vampire, while it’s cute I want to shake something sometimes. People never seem to remember Elizabeth Bathory and how she bathed in young girl’s blood which helped to pave way for Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
Vlad the Impaler was actually a big supporter of Hungary during the Turkish/Ottoman rule.
What I also found out was a lot of America RPers won’t speak to her and say that they have never heard of Hungary. Doing more research, I found that not only did Hungary offer assistance to America’s Revolution, the Americans actually asked the Hungarians to teach them the ways of Calvary.
Later down the line, after WWII and Soviet reign in Hungary, Hungarians were afraid of something happening to the beloved Crown of Hungary so they asked for America to keep it in the Fort Knox Vault and it remained there until the collapse of the Soviet Union which then the crown was returned. The Hungarians were also very anti-Soviet that they made Elvis Presley an honorary citizen to the Nation because of all the anti-Soviet songs and support he had given during the time.
So while some people frown that Hetalians use History or that Hetalia doesn’t teach real history, I sigh. It depends on the people, of course, but I have to say, because of it I’ve actually added a lot of knowledge on History. I’ve always been interested in European History but in school we never really touched base on Eastern Europe or WWI or the prequel to America’s involvement in WWII.
So yeah, the more you know.
Most of these facts were based off of things I have read along with various History Channel Programs [like one specifically on Fort Knox]. If I have something wrong or facts messed up, I do apologize and mean no offense.
